Men's Health for Men of Standard

The following exams are guidelines taken from the Men's Health Network and should be adhered to by all men to prevent diseases.

PHYSICAL EXAM: Review overall
health status, perform a thorough
physical exam and discuss health
related topics. To be done every 3 years for ages 20-39. Every 2 years for ages 40-49 and annually for 50+.

BLOOD PRESSURE: High blood
pressure (Hypertension) has no
symptoms, but can cause permanent
damage to body organs. Blood pressure should be checked annually starting at age 20.

RECTAL EXAM: Screens for
hemorrhoids, lower rectal problems,
colon and prostate cancer. Rectal exams should be checked annually starting at age 20.

PSA BLOOD TEST: Prostate
Specific Antigen is produced by
the prostate. Levels rise when
there is an abnormality such as
an infection, enlargement or cancer.
Testing should be done in collaboration
with your physician. Screening should begin at age 50, however men of African-American descent or those with family history of prostate cancer should begin at age 40. Discuss this with your physician if you are not sure.

HEMOCCULT: Screens the stool for
microscopic amounts of blood that
can be the first indication of
polyps or colon cancer. Should be done annually starting at age 40.

COLORECTAL HEALTH: A flexible
scope examines the rectum, sigmoid
and descending colon for
cancer at its earliest and treatable
stages. It also detects polyps, which
are benign growths that can progress
to cancer if not found early. Should be done every 3-4 years starting at age 50.

CHEST X-RAY: Should be considered
in smokers over the age of
45. The usefulness of this test on a
yearly basis is debatable due to
poor cure rates of lung cancer.

SELF-EXAMS:
Testicle: To find lumps
in their earliest stages.
 Skin: To look
for signs of changing moles, freckles,
or early skin cancer.
Oral: To
look for signs of cancerous lesions
in the mouth.
 Breast: To find abnormal
lumps in their earliest stages.
These should all be done frequently throughout a man's life.

TESTOSTERONE SCREENING:
Low testosterone symptoms
include low sex drive, erectile dysfunction,
fatigue and depression.
Initial screening for symptoms with
a questionnaire followed by a
simple blood test. This would typically begin at age 40, and may be checked annually if symptoms are present.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES
(STDs): Sexually active adults who
consider themselves at risk for STDs
should be screened for syphilis,
chlamydia and other STDs. This should be done as needed and before or after contact with new partners.
Evangelist Nadia, RN

A Man's health and wellbeing is vitally important to his family and to society. Man was the first created human being and he sets the standard for generations to come. If a husband, father, brother, son will stand-up, and set the standard of caring for themselves in all areas of life, such as Spiritually, emotionally, financially, physically, then the generations that come after him will have a standard to follow.  Imagine a young man. He is growing up in poverty, witnessing his father abusing drugs, yelling at his mother, or worse yet hitting his mother. This man also does not have his financial affairs in order and most time there is no food to eat in the house. What kind of a message is this father sending to his family?  He is essentially saying without speaking a word; I don't care about my own body, I don't care whether you have food to eat, and you can treat the women in your life like dirt because that is how I treated your mother. This type of man values nothing! Not himself, his family or God. He has poisoned himself and those around him. Psalm 127:1 says "unless the Lord builds the house, it's laborers labor in vain." I believe it is in our divine nature that we desire leadership in our lives. In our homes, schools, businesses, churches. We all desire to have that stability of life and to know that someone really does care about our welfare. We desire love and understanding. The world is falling apart because of the broken leadership in the world. That leadership should begin in the home, and should subsequently be grafted into society. How far we have come from the book of Genesis when Elohim said "Let us make man in OUR image." We should be carbon copies of our Father in Heaven, instead we are a society running around like chickens with our heads cut off with no direction, looking for the next best thing, the fastest get rich quick scheme, instead of just "seeking" God to make us better. The answer to the life we desire lies in that one word "seeking." There are numerous scriptures that talk about seeking God and God being found!!! Can you imagine FINDING the God of the Universe? The God who stood at the edge of darkness and spoke Life into this world. Are you telling me, we can find this GOD??? That should be enough to get your life in order. We should run and keep running toward God until we find Him in all of His Glory and Majesty. There is none like Him in all the earth, No not one!!! And we have full access to Him when we desire to seek Him?? WOW!!! I just blew my own socks off on that one. I don't know how I got talking about "seeking" when I started off with the importance of Men's health, but God is the ultimate leader and this is where he has led us today. So I pray that the men reading this would seek God for everything in their lives. It is one thing to be healthy, to look good from the outside. But what about the man who wants to be Whole???  I desire clean hands and a pure heart! How about you?

I can't say enough about the Men Of Standard at Rehoboth! Beginning with Pastor Vic, who is our Servant Leader, who has truly set a standard. The standard he has set though was not from him, he is following the guidelines set forth by our heavenly father and he is duplicating it. The men I see now at Rehoboth are becoming duplicates of what you see Pastor Vic doing and ultimately Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith. I see so much growth in every one of you, and I am so proud to be a woman of Faith at this church, knowing that we as women are surrounded by men that have true integrity and a profound love of the Lord. I now know what to look for in a husband (house-band) someday, because he should like the culmination of the men at Rehoboth. I love you all so Much and I am humbled to serve with you. This is my first of many Men's Newsletters and I dedicate this one to each of the:
Pastor Victor Hudson
Minister Chris Shannon
Deacon Paul Richard
Deacon Leon Dozier
Brother Cory Jones
The Anointed Corey Hudson
The Chosen Xzavier Brown
